Ready to escape to the past?

The Wynnewood Historical Society is hosting an escape room at the historic Eskridge Hotel Museum Oct. 16, 23 and 30. Reservations are available 12 p.m.-9 p.m. for groups of four or more. The cost per person is $25.

The escape room will feature a set of clues and puzzles that participants will need to solve a mystery in 45 minutes or less.

The setting of the room will be centered around the time period of prohibition and the dust bowl.

“During that time, Wynnewood was a popular place for people to get off the train and actually stay the night in the Eskridge hotel, but not all of those people were reputable. That’s where some of our stories come in,” Wynnewood Historical Society member Debby Johnson said.

She hopes to keep some of those stories and the local history of Wynnewood and surrounding communities alive.

“I am amazed by the history we have here,” Johnson said. “We want people to know that the hotel is there, and it has an interesting and valuable place in the community,” she said.

Funds raised from the escape room will go toward purchasing holiday wreaths for local veterans buried at Wynnewood’s cemetery. The wreaths are approximately $15 per wreath and will be purchased through Wreaths Across America.

“We want to be able to put out these wreaths and if there is a veteran out there, we want to know their name and say their name,” Johnson said. “If people say their name and place a wreath in their honor, they can’t be forgotten.”

Johnson said other projects planned for the future, if funds allow, include identifying individuals in old yearbooks and newspaper clippings, maintaining the museum and building more escape rooms in the hotel including rooms for younger children that can be used for birthday parties and related events.

Johnson said there are currently five groups signed up to attend the escape room, and she has received multiple interest calls. Several time slots are available and can be reserved by calling 405-238-9825. The room is handicapped accessible.
