Voters in Wynnewood and Elmore City will head to the polls on Feb. 8. Wynnewood voters will weigh in on a $560,000 school bond issue, while Elmore City voters will choose a council member to fill an unexpired term for Ward 2. Candidates in that race are Jason D. Smith and Derek Allen Upshaw.

Wynnewood’s school bond issue is split into two propositions. The first, totaling $210,000, is designated for technology. The money will be used to replace computers in the elementary and high school computer labs, replace broken student Chromebooks and replace outdated projectors and Smartboards across the district with SmartTV technology, beginning with the high school and middle school.

The second proposition is for student transportation totaling $350,000. It will be used to purchase new activity buses and vans to replace existing activity buses and vans that have been in service for more than 13 years.

The bond issue requires a 60% supermajority to pass and, if approved, will be replacing an existing bond set to expire, so there is no projected tax increase associated with the bond.

Regular polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 8.

Early voting begins Thursday, Feb. 3. Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on election day, have the option of voting early at their county election board. Early voting is open to all voters.

“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted through the State Election Board – from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines,” Garvin County Election Board Secretary Gayla Dean said.

Early voting is available Thursday, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Garvin County Election Board, 201 W. Grant. Dean reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations. For questions, please contact the county election board at 405-238-3303 or garvincounty@elections.ok.gov.
